I always tell my couples, don’t forget to celebrate your engagement! So often in a rush to get to the wedding, you forget to slow down and enjoy being engaged. What better way to celebrate than a beautiful garden-themed engagement party?

Determined to bring the look and feel of an outdoor garden inside, I worked with a talented group of vendors to pull together this garden-themed engagement party editorial shoot. Whenever I do an editorial shoot, I like to put together a couple of looks just to show how a theme can be adapted for different styles. For this shoot, I collaborated with Mari of Something Old Dayton. We both started with the same concept and brought it to life in two different ways.

As soon as I stepped into the old paper factory where we did the shoot, I fell in love with the brick arches and high ceilings. I wanted to breathe new life into it. You could feel the history, there was a story that was waiting to be told! Inspired by the brick, I instantly thought of a potter's bench, the look of the overgrown greens, and piled high terracotta pots among the perfectly groomed garden. Everyone might not have access to a beautiful garden to host an engagement party, but you can certainly re-create the look and feel.

For my look, the long hairpin leg table from Something Old Dayton was dressed with an ivory cheesecloth for an effortless and classic look. Each place setting was set with a striped linen napkin and the menu for the evening. In true family-style dining style, there were several wine bottles and charcuterie spreads for guests to share as they arrived. The table was adorned with free form arrangements from Evergreen Floral Co and accompanied by potted herbs in antique terracotta pots to give it that garden feel. I love this idea for an event because the pots could easily be taken home or given to guests. Tall skinny candles from Creative Candles and modern dinnerware helped the table feel clean and elegant. The smell of the herbs sure didn't hurt and guests could pick straight from them to add to their dish.

The second table, styled by Mari, was adorned with small gatherings of the tiniest tomatoes you have ever seen. Evergreen Floral Co. created a tomato design down the table which looked as if the tomatoes were grown from the table. Each place had an aged chapati board set with a bread loaf and personalized charcuterie spread. The black candles and striped napkins helped the table feel modern and pulled together.

Heather with Evergreen Floral also designed and created a beautiful garden installation against the brick wall. The installation transformed the room - it really felt like we were in a garden. But the true bonus of this shoot? We got to invite some friends to pose and enjoy the spread.
