Kate and Taylor’s Heinz History Center wedding in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will always have a special place in my heart. Not just because it was beautiful (it was) but because it was my first wedding as owner and lead designer of Samantha Joy Events. While I have worked in the event industry for many years as an event assistant or managing corporate events for my 9 to 5, Kate and Taylor’s wedding was my first as a full-fledged entrepreneur and owner of Samantha Joy Events.

It was actually Kate who gave me the push I needed to get SJE off the ground. I had been talking about starting an event planning and design business for a while but hadn’t made things official. Kate said she wanted to hire me but not just me Samantha, she wanted to hire SJE. Ever since that day we have been off and running!

I honestly love that I got to travel for my first SJE wedding. One of my long-term career goals is to do a wedding in all 50 states. I got to check off Pennsylvania right away with this Heinz History Center wedding!

SJE milestones aside, Kate and Taylor’s wedding was such a beautiful and special day. The florist was actually the same one Kate’s mom used on her wedding day. How sweet is that? They also did a fabulous job of celebrating the religious and cultural history of both families. Kate is Catholic and Taylor is Jewish and they beautifully balanced those traditions during both the ceremony and reception.

For this November wedding, we used a deep, jewel-toned color palette. It was perfect for the fall season. I love that they included a lounge seating vignette. A nice seating vignette gives guests a place to sit and relax during the evening and allows for more intimate conversation and connection.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better inaugural wedding for SJE. I am forever grateful for Kate’s nudge to begin SJE and I loved being a part of their wedding day at the Heinz History Center.
