As seen on Green Wedding Shoes: How to Bring the Desert Vibes to Your Wedding Day

Looking for a little dessert oasis 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati? Mojave East delivers! One of the newest wedding and event venues in southwest Ohio, Mojave East offers something a bit different than most venues in the area. If you are looking for west coast glam, this is your spot. Inspired by the Palm Springs meets dessert vibes of the space, our Mojave East Editorial shoot was unlike anything I have done before. And it has me ready to recreate this look for all my boho brides.

Our color palette was inspired by the rich dessert sunset - dusty reds, mauves, and golden yellows. I loved playing with these warm colors and I even had a bit of fun incorporating them into the groom’s attire. His golden yellow jacket is so dreamy. A tux doesn’t have to be black or white - don’t be afraid to have a bit of fun. The groom’s style should shine too! If you're on the fence about a colored suit, one tip we have is to have an alternative colored dinner jacket for the reception. You keep the classic look for the ceremony and pictures but get to spice it up for the reception.

For this shoot, I wanted to incorporate a lot of texture, so I got creative and utilized unique materials throughout our design. We used terracotta planters for our bread and butter plates, baskets for candleholders, and wooden chargers. It gave everything a more natural look, which was exactly what we were going for.

I also wanted to present our tablescape two ways - one simple and minimalist and the other traditional and full. I really wanted to highlight how a look can be changed to meet a couple’s unique style. If you are inspired by a design but want to scale it back, we can do that! Or if you love a look but want something more, that can be done too.

Table one was robust and full. We had a beautiful floral centerpiece, lots of candles, and a full place setting. The tables are adorned with rust-colored napkins, rich gold flatware, small copper votives, and wicker baskets to bring in height. Table two was a simpler interpretation. We used skinny tapers, green glass voices, and more peach tones so the sunset inspiration came through even stronger. I loved the vibrant pattern napkins we found to complete this look

Another unique thing about this shoot - 90% of florals were previously dried. Marti Heard Designs did an amazing job putting all the florals together. They were beautiful and perfect for our dessert theme and would be a great option for the more eco-friendly bride. We used the florals as centerpieces, an overhead installation, and an asymmetrical ceremony arch that framed the couple and added visual interest. We carried our dessert theme to the invitation suite as well done by Isidore and Augustine. The invitations were letterpressed with a delicate floral pattern and were so beautiful. I firmly believe, you just can’t beat good quality stationery.

I really loved creating our dessert inspired shoot at Mojave East. I think this look is perfect for couples with a more boho style, those who are inspired by nature, or even a more mid-century vibe. The dessert might not be the first thing you think of when it comes to wedding design, but I think this shoot proves it is worth considering.
